Or was it just a mere midsummer night´s dream? On top of Cvrch sits a hunter
who observes the entire situation, and from time to time shoots…
Thomas Artz is a young Austrian playwright
with a fresh and original handwriting – his play sinks its teeth into
unpleasant themes – a metaphor of a time that deliberately refuses to accept
its past, that lives now and here, and besides, after us, the Deluge... The
Word-premier of the play took place in April 2011 in Schauspielhas in Vienna. Theatre
Letí in a co-production with Theatre Komedie introduced the play in a Czech
premiere on 8th May, 2011.

David Gieselmann’s comedy is accompanied by music composed by MIG 21 and lyrics by Xindl X. Few years ago a DJ named Lucie gained her popularity with one mega-hit. She used part of her huge salary to purchase an abandoned farmhouse outside of Berlin,
and moved in her friends. They formed a distinctive community, and as means of
protest against capitalism, and by the motto that “love and weed will win
against all” they began cultivating a hashish plantation. Lucie spend most of
her time away touring the world. However, suddenly now the ostensibly ideal
sound is corrupted by false tones. Joachim, for example, betrays the set ideas,
and earns a lot as an I.T. expert. He still smokes weed but he does not want to
lend a single penny to anyone! Clouds gather over the plantation, and Lucie
returns from Paris. She is broke, and the farm will have go into auction. Is
that an end of the plantation? End of freedom? End of smoking weed?
David Gieselmann fidgets with the motifs of the Russian classic by A. P. Chekhov, and creates a distinctive version of his famous play, the Cherry Orchard. After receiving
much success on European stages Theatre Letí decided to introduce the play in a
musical version (with music by MIG 21 and lyrics by Xindl X) also to Czech
audiences by Theatre Letí.

Famous Swedish monodrama about the taste of love, fear of death and sweet revenge.
Johan is actually a normal guy. He plays football, likes to go out with friends from his team, dates girls from his school. One day he finally realizes, that he is not interested in girls, that he just wants to be friends with them. On the day of his 21st birthday he meets Fredrik and falls in love. "On my twenty-first birthday I met Fredrik. Or to be precise he met me, because he come up to me. That evening changed my life." Life with Fredrik is unbelievably beautiful, until the two guy go for a holiday together to Canary Islands. Fredrik stops communicating, he becomes nervous and sleeps on the ground instead of sharing a bed with Johan. What happened? A few weeks later Johan gets a letter from a doctor, and suddenly everything is clear. He is HIV positive, and the only person who could have infected him was Fredrik. At that moment the relationship turns around. Johan becomes furious and Fredrik closes in his shell. Johan longs for revenge - he still has Fredrik's American Express! His act of revenge has a fatal conclusion. Can Johan manage to live...after Fredrik?
This astonishing Swedish monodrama won the Audience Prize of Theatre Riksteatern, Stockholm in 2005. It has been staged in many European theatres.

With action that catapults from the bustling streets to the skies above Dublin then plummets down to the bowels of the earth, Terminus is a vivid and exhilarating tale of three people ripped from their daily lives and thrown into a fantastical world of murderers, avenging angels, and love-sick demons. It Is a drama full of darkness and violence but love and tenderness are also to be found and as the play moves towards its climax it promises a cruel sort of justice for all.
The production by Theatre Letí presents the play as an experimental multimedia show, with a DJ and two VJs being present on stage.

Roman Sikora’s politically incorrect cabaret split the Czech theatre critique, received frenetic responses from the spectators, and was immediately and with great success introduced to audiences in Berlin and Paris.
Mr. M is not an ordinary citizen. Mr. M beforehand agrees with all governmental financial cuts. It excites him to have several employment contracts, despite of gaining a poor salary for them, and despite all the bullying. Mr. M wants to suffer. Mr. M is a Masochist.
During his confession he exposes his “Simple Life Instructions Manual”. He shows us that only during the times of economical crises we can be truly happy, and he gives us advice how to achieve this. He explains why leftists are boring, and how Nazi sympathizers are
different, why Czechs are better than the Chinese, and what does the Minister
of Finance Mirek together with the Prime Minister Péťa think about all this.
Theatre Letí with great wit and skill seized the opportunity to present this text. Tomáš Kobr, the performer of the masochist, plays his deviant wretch with moderation, he does not overact his
perverse thinking, he naturally plays with the inverse language, and in spite
of or maybe thanks to the usage of so many absurd unrealistic means he creates
a character that the spectator can identify with.
Theatre Letí actors elegantly perform the roles of horses, individual bosses, the skilfully handle the whip on a very small stage. The artistic solution is restrained and amusing, the harshly poetic as well as charming brothel dominatrix as the metaphor of the crises who
with a blasé in her voice peevishly accepts orders for sadistic practices. On
the stage we see many new faces of actors who are not only masters of their
craft but at the same time who know what they want to convey, which they are
being led by a remarkable woman in contemporary Czech theatre, the stage
director Martina Schlegelová.

After a long time I have seen a play by a contemporary Czech playwright that responds to the newest tendencies of our reform government... They play has its message, it is performed by keen actors
– especially I would like to point out the performance of Tomáš Kobr in the
title role. The play was awarded by both an applause as well as laughter on an
open stage. The Masochist “only” analyses – he does not offer any solutions. I
know that on the next premiere of a play by Roman Sikora I will not have to
worry about the fate of the evening.

A girl comedy (where a guy appears, but it is for the better) written by the very popular Slovak playwright Viliam Klimáček focuses on the au-pair phenomenon. A new day fairy tale about a poor girl travelling the world to search happiness doesn´t need to end with a wedding with a glorious prince.
The au-pair phenomenon was quite huge in this country right after The Velvet Revolution. That is when the board reopened and so the possibility to travel, experience different countries or learn a foreign language. The definition of the word says that au-pair is a boy or a girl from 17 to 26 years of age who helps in a family to do home chores (quite often helping to take care of a little child). The reward is accommodation, food and some pocket money to cover a language course or little personal expenses. The official goal of such a stay is cultural exchange and improving in the language of the country. The word to word translation means “on equal terms” and thinks of the relationship as not being only economical. How does such a relationship work in reality? What do young girls dream about when travelling to foreign and unknown countries and families?
It took Viliam Klimáček nine months to do proper research of the phenomenon the text of the Au-pairs is based on. He wrote a tale of three au-pairs in London who throw a party at a house of a family that has left for the weekend. They recall sad and happy memories from their work and slowly all their unfulfilled dreams and frustrations show up. The director Marián Amsler and the dramaturgist Marie Špalová made changes in the text to fit Czech reality and the actors of Theatre Letí as well.

The world premiere of Zazděná/Mauerschau took place in September. Theatre LETÍ with Zazděná / Mauerschau was the only representative of the Czech Republic in the international project After the Fall with theatres like Royal Court Theatre in London, Teatr Stary in Cracow, Abbey Theatre in Dublin or the National Theatre in Copenhagen. The aim of the international theatre project "After the Fall" is to remember the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and consequences of this revolution for Germany and Europe in general. The Goethe-Institute addressed theatre and playwrights in 15 countries and they acquired 19 authors who wrote plays that reflected social-political changes in their country and 17 theatre subjects that staged these plays. Young playwright Barbora Vaculová wrote the play Zazděná/Mauerschau with a close cooperation with Theatre LETÍ. Music composer Aleš Březina, the owner of A. Radok Award for 2008, wrote music for this staging. The production team was international – artists from Germany (director Susanne Chrudina, stage designer Malve Lippman and actor Claudia Schwarz) as well as from the Czech Republic participated in the staging. The staging is performed in two languages and it is understandable for Czech and German speaking audience.
The performance was presented within the Prague Theatre Festival of the German language and it was invited for the international theatre show in Belgrade.

The ceremonial opening of the Contemporary Drama Centre
The best authors connect in a unique project
The performance comprises of five short plays with the main theme being “the airport”. The plays have been written by prominent authors from different European countries: Joe Penhall (Great Britain), Falk Richter (Germany), David Gieselmann (Germany), Viliam Klimáček (Slovakia) and David Drábek (Czech Republic). These playwrights were invited to the first opening at the Prague Airport. Afterwards the production will be staged at the Theatre Na zábradlí under the title No Rooms In Heaven (Letí at the Airport and On the Balustrade); and it will become a part of the theatre’s repertoire.
The theme of the CDC’s pilot project is fast lifestyle of today’s Europe and the airport is the actual symbol of such a lifestyle. The airport serves as a symbol of modern society, its rhythm and its communication. It is a place where individuals and cultures meet. It is a neuralgic point of contemporary society, a place which symbolizes speed, flexibility but also loss of identity, a place outside time and space.

Joy is a completely reliable and flexible working force at an airport fast food. But today she is in total distress. The cash register scanner is out of order and there is about twenty panicky looking hectic managers waiting in the line to pay for their sandwiches. Among them, there is Tom. His main merits are reliability and flexibility. But today he forgot his iPhone PIN code. There is every information there: data, contacts, numbers, codes. Without it he does not know where he actually is, where he has arrived from, where he is flying to. In such a world, is there room for love? Maybe there is room for electronic love...
Falk Richter (1969) was born in Hamburg. Richter studied theatre direction. At present, he is the resident author of the Berliner Schaubühne. Richter directs drama and opera also in other theatre houses, e.g. Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Bayerische Staatsoper, Burgtheater Wien, Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Seven Stages Atlanta and Schauspielhaus Zürich. One of his most popular plays God is a DJ (Gott ist ein DJ, 1998)has had 50 different production all over the world. His play Nothing hurts (2000) and a four-part cycle of political theatre The System (Das System) have been shown at Schaubühne since 2004. The agency DILIA offers translations of his plays God is a DJ, Electronic City (from The System cycle) and The Breakdown.

Flight 215 from London to Stanstead. My flight. I’ve spent the time sitting in the bathroom. At first the stewards knocked, and then they realized that the bathroom was the only place where one could be really alone nowadays. One can truly contemplate only in restrooms. A woman in difficulties flies always alone. Baggage handling belt and the light board are the only ones talking to her. So don’t forget to flush so they don’t suspect anything. When the sound of running water is heard, everything’s OK.
Viliam Klimáček was born in 1958 in Trenčín, Slovakia. After finishing his studies at the Medical Faculty at J.A. Komenský University Klimáček worked as a surgeon and anaesthetist. After nine years he quit his medical career and since then he has devoted himself to theatre. Klimáček lives in Bratislava. He received the Alfréd Radok Award for the best Czech and Slovak play six times. Most recently, he was awarded the Alfréd Radok Award for the play Who Is Afraid of Beatles. Since 1985 he has been the artistic director of the independent authorial theatre GUnaGU, where he writes, directs and sometimes also acts.

The flight from Brussels to Copenhagen. They have announced it several times already but I
question myself a little whether I have gone mad: where are we? I’m looking from the plane.
I don’t know where we are but this definitely isn’t Copenhagen. I know the Copenhagen
airport and this is not it. Maybe they have sent us in a different direction. Maybe we have
been hijacked. They’ve deceived us. Whatever is happening, we are not in Copenhagen.
Where am I? A European gangster play for four actors who are in search of a
suitcase full of money coming from Brussels. A turmoil of languages where no one
understands anyone. The airport chaos rules and everyone carries a gun.
David Gieselmann was born in 1972 in Köln. Gieselmann studied playwriting at the art school Hochschule der Künste in Berlin and he staged his first plays at Theaterszene Berlin. In 1999, he was invited to the International Residency of Playwrights and Week of New German Playwrights at the Royal Court Theatre in London. In 2000, his play Mr Kolpert was produced there in the world premiere. Later it was staged in German as well as in Scandinavia, Italy, Greece, Poland, The Czech Republic, Australia, USA, etc.

In a den made of branches somewhere in the tree top or somewhere inside a wasp nest. Who knows? There about they have met. A girl with black hair which are sticky with blood here and there. A plump man with tiny wings. A semi-naked man. A woman behind the desk is offering them drinks. Her look resembles insect. Someone from the sphinx moth family. Lymantriid browntail moth. She is their guide; she is actually going to teach them how to fly.
David Drábek – a dramatist, director and artistic director of the Klicpera Theatre in Hradec Králové. Drábek graduated from the Arts Faculty of the Palacký University in Olomouc in the field of film and theatre studies. In 1995 Drábek received the Alfréd Radok Award for best play for Joan of the Ark. He also received the Alfréd Radok Award for the best original play of 2003 for his play Aquabelles, which was also awarded the title The Best Czech Play of 2005. In the same year the publishing house Větrné mlýny, Brno published a collection of seven of his plays. His play “The Brothers Mašín Square” was awarded second prize at Alfréd Radok Awards and two years later it was also awarded the title The Best Czech Play of 2009. As author, director and dramaturge he cooperates with the Klicpera Theatre in Hradec Králové, Petr Bezruč Theatre in Ostrava and Theatre Minor in Prague.
